Ok, I need help. I got the saltillo tile down and grouted (hey, looking good dude!) and then it was time for the finish. Don’t ask why, it’s too late. I put a good coat of danish oil on the tiles, and it really brought out the color. Then I put on a coat of Parks Pro Finish water-based poly, which is labeled as an excellent floor finish, very durable, etc, etc. Fortunately I was doing the finish in small areas. A day or two after the poly was dried, I noticed that the dog’s claws left white marks, and closer inspection showed that it was not adhering well. Dang! Then I went back and re-read the danish oil label, and it said to wait at least 72 hours before applying a poly finish, and of course I didn’t wait but about 24 hrs. Knowing that it won’t get better with more coats, I am in the process of stripping the poly off about 75 sf of tile, one at a time. It’s not easy; takes at least 15 min per tile, and that’s the ones that cooperate. Since I don’t want to go through this agian, what ideas do you have for the finish? I’m stuck with the danish oil, becasue it’s soaked into the tile. If I wait long enough before applying it, will the water-based poly be a good finish?
