i need to decide how to cut the profile
hello again to all, the attatched pix is a drawing to one of my customers of a side view of a fireplace mantel. i need to decide how to cut the profile of the “molding” hopefully without having knives cut. the profile is about 7-8″. any advice on how to do this? thanks again!

End grain showing? or wrapped around? I hand plane after hogging with whatever is handy at the time. I am fortunate to have a large collection of specialty planes from auctions and such, and really enjoy the process.

did U sell something U can't make?
I'd find an off the shelf crown that's close and go from there ...

You can cut the cove with a tablesaw, then use the tablesaw to get close on any other spots, and smooth it with a plane or belt sander or contour scraper.
Cut the cove on the tablesaw by running the piece over the blade at an angle- so the fence is 15 or 30 degrees or whatever off of parallel from the blade. raise the blade about 1/4" per pass.

I agree with JeffBuck. What you have is a pretty standard looking ogee under a shelf with a bead. Is it critical that it look exactly like the drawing or just like the drawing?
You can get a router bit that will put that exact bead on the shelf. Put your crown under it. Done.
If it's stain grade, you might want to cut a piece for the bead separately and wrap it around to avoid end grain on the shelf, as Sphere pointed out.

130 and 150, depending, the upper portion could do that. We don't know your dimensions though

Like Zak and Sphere said, make it, you could do it quicker then all those guys that are going down to the lumber yard to get something close! :)
If close works I'd opt to buy something but if you have to have exactly that then you shouldnt have much trouble making it with a few router bits, the table saw, a few scrapers and a hand plane.
