i want to frame!

RTC | Posted in General Discussion on December 10, 2004 09:11am

I’ve been framing for a year and a half and i love it. I learn very fast and can layout and frame most of a house on my own. I recently moved from Port Aransas, TX to Houston and cannot find work because all of the framing is done by illegel aliens from the south. How come they get to have all the fun.I wnt to frame! any suggestions?

Hah ha!, he said "dome."  Like you could find enough uniformly-crooked studs to describe any other structure than a bonfire . . .

"Wane? (very puzzled look)  I think Wayne works in Plumbing . . . "Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)

Learn Construction Spanglish--you'll be hefe segundo.

Wait till next week, be a bunch of folk getting deported in time for the holidays . . . (or so it is alleged . . . )

You won't find much in the Houston papers--you're better off showing up on a job site with tools and belt ready to go around 0700.  Mondays are better, as there's more likely to be a "vacancy" on Mondays.

Be open to other jobs that are similar.  The drywall guy may be hiring carpentry help on the side.  It's not framing, but it'll get you to where the framers are.

Their right about learning Spanish. Also get a bunch of crappy cords with no grounds,Get a POS 4'level ,Drive a pick-up with no insurance & hot plates , Spray paint your tools day glo green, Do it for 40% less ( and don't pay Uncle Sam any Taxs), do a crappy job, don't clean up after yourself ( 2xs with nails to step on), Hardhats! (We don't need no stinking Hardhats), Show up @ 8. When the $h t hits ths fan (like osha) we can always head back to the Mother land.  Just a sample of what I deal with on an average day.

You best bet is to stay far away from production building. Find someone that does highend framing. Find a way to get on board.

Its a shame what has happen to construction & the labor force. 25 years ago the times were much brighter! Best of Luck!

                                                  Happy Holidays!

Call the INS and "Tip off" the local housing track.  Show up 5 minutes later and you got a job... It only ltakes 1 minute to clear out a whole track of illegals, the other two minutes are for your own safety because you don't want to get run over.

This ain't no exageration.  Be on a few job sites in SoCal where this has happened.  A few in SanDiego and one in DanaPoint

I'm in Idaho, I could use a hand who wants to frame.
