Well I thought I was.
I was in a Home Depot and needed a sheet of OSB. I had never been in this store before so I asked someone where the saw was and told him I needed a sheet ripped in half.
Not only did he point me to the saw HE WALKED DOWN THE AILSE (out of his way) AND HELPED ME LOAD THE SHEET!!!
I was shocked. The only place i’ve ever seen a Depot employee touch a piece of merchandise before today was on TV.
Is this one of the signs of the apocolypse?

Why are you telling people about this? You're gonna get him fired!
I've always had good luck with the people at Lowes and home depot.

To me you just gotta have realistic expectations.
Admittedly I still get POed whey they are out of common stuff though...
Like I've always said. Take the place for what it is. Expect no more and you'll be fine.

People at Lowes know me by name and I still end up loading sheet stock by myself.
I will say though that the Lowes I usually shop at has a great guy in the kitchen dept. When I did my last rental this guy came in on his day off and spent two hours shopping with me and helping me lay out the kitchen.

They can do what they want. They know I'll make them tear it all back out. I should have the framer stop by and give them a lecture on quality control. LOL

You stole my line!fka (formerly known as) blue
Actually, I have to say that as much as HD does drive me crazy, the actual people at the one I do most of my shopping at are nice and really helpful. A lot of them are middle age, some are even past that and they've gotten to know my face and are always willing to try to make things work.
I have been to other stores and it just isn't the same, the attitude seems to wane a bit from civility.
It's the system that HD runs by and the product (or lack thereof) that makes me nuts.
You also have to learn who to ask and who to avoid.
Hope you weren't the one running the saw or the guy will be in big heap'em doodoo.
be doowhat now? You ran the saw?
That is what I was thinking.
They can't get your Goat if you don't tell them where it is hidden.
I thought that might be a mis speak. I've never heard of anyone getting to run the saw.

What i've learned from 5 years of daily visits to big boxes.
If you need help and can find no one, grab one of those rolling stairs, take it to the main aisle or to where the stock you need (in the over head) and start climbing.
You'll get some help.
One time I needed something small (cant rememeber what) and it was all in the overstock. Easy reach so up I go. I thought this guy was gonna give birth in the aisle. "Sir, get down from there! We didnt care enough to set the stock, but now that you're helping yourself we care."
I really made him mad when I wouldnt come down till I got what I needed, thanked him and left.
I'm in my Lowes usually a couple times a week just buying small stuff, never lumber or anything major. So I know a few of the guys there and they are good guys always willing to help. But, there's this one guy with an attitude like his s**t doesn't stink, cocky as all get out, and won't even make eye contact with you. I get the feeling he thinks he's on his way to upper management and can't be bothered with us contractor types.
It was a rare occasion today I had to order 5 Pellas and 5 velux skylights for a small remodel coming up. It's not our usual window and I usually never buy windows from Lowes but anyway... it had to go through him, noone else working the desk. He's giving me the same can't be bothered attitude UNTIL... the total of $3200.00 comes up. Then you'd think he wants to be my best friend or something. He actually smiled at me and thanked me three times! I wonder if he'll remember my name tomorrow? Call his boss when he does that. Our local lumber yard has a guy just like that. I can't stand him. One day I was in there poking around looking for a can of spray paint. He came up to me friendly as can be. Started chatting away. Then he asked me if I was building any houses? i said nope I never build houses. He looked stunned, and said that he had me confused with someone else and walked away. (commission is a big part of their wages, so they don't like like to deal with small fish) I called him a F'n Jerk as he walked away.

I hear ya with the attitude thing. When i'm working on my own houses I become the consumate barterer. I usually can score 10% off a fair part of the time. I'm always polite about it and dont expect it and it usually works out.
Well this one particular day I loaded over $700 worth of trim on a cart for one of my houses. I got to the counter and asked to talk to a manager. I get a young one that I hadnt really seen much of in this store. He wouldnt even discuss a discount (mind you I spent about 25k in Lowes on this house alone).
Some of the younger corporate type managers just wont budge.
The way this guy spoke to me just rubbed me wrong so, I left the whole cart at the register and walked out.
You're crackin me up.
I do the same thing.

Hey, time is money, and I usually have someone that i'm paying, waiting for whatever i'm buying back at the site.
If you dont want me on your precious ladders, stock your shelves, or, hire one or two more people, please.
sound like a "Do you fricken job" quote if I ever heard one..
Dont believe a word I say, I am alway wrong, just ask BOB
I've probably posted this before, but...On a couple of occasions I bought drywall at Home Depot. But for reasons that I forget, I was willing to cut the sheets in half for easier handling. So I go into Home Depot, I grab a tape off the shelf from tools, I grab a T-square and I proceed to cut a couple of sheets of drywall in half (I brought my own knife in my pocket).I loaded the cut sheets on a cart, returned the knife and T-square, and checked out.All without any offers of assistance or any other interaction with any employee until I got to the register.

He was new, don't worry he will learn quickly and won't help you again.
Might be a trend. I've noticed at HD's near me that the folks have been very friendly and helpful lately. Maybe HD's dropping sales trend has management worried.
Whatever the reason, it's a nice trend.
