I am not exaggerating when I say that every house within a 10 mile radius has the same hollow core 6-panel colonial doors as my house. I would love to replace them with a different style of solid core door, but that would be prohibitively expensive. My plan is to use an 1/8†sheet of press board (or whatever peg board without holes is called) and molding to cover each pair of recessed panels to give the doors a three-dimensional three panel look. Is there anything I can do to increase the sound deadening of these hollow core doors? I am not looking for sound proof, I just want to get rid of the cheap sounding pop of a closing hollow door. I thought maybe if I used plywood and/or glued the flat panel that maybe it would dampen the skin of the door. I have doors from 32†to 16†that I intend to modify.

The solid core version of those 6-panel doors aren't all that expensive, and they're available in several different styles, too.
IMHO, unless you have considerably more time than money, just change out the doors. You'll be better off in the long run.
Amen. Keep an eye out for some salvage doors or overruns. Check with the local door companies. Get on there LIST to call with overruns or bad orders. You will be MUCH happier.

If the house is not old.
If you do finally swap out the solids for the HC's, try to get the same brand from the same distributor and hope they didn't change their hinging jigs. You should be able to just exchange the locksets and hinges. Of course, get one first or go talk directly to the distributor (not the end seller, the area supplier to them). I changed out an entire upstairs of doors in a 6 y.o. house and miraculously was able to do the above. I wrote down the hinge and lockset locations and took a drive over to the door shop. Sometimes the hinges will have a distributor ID on them. Usually around here, the slabs will be by Masonite.
If you keep the originals and mess with them and want to add some "solid" feel. Drill a couple holes in the top edge of the door and attempt to fill them with Vermiculite, a known cancer causing masonry insulation, still available I think. Get a plug cutter and cap the holes.
