   Awful short on details.....are you talking about a gas unit? Is it exhausting through a chimney or a chase? Both?

   Typically, as with any mechanical, all parts that need to be roughed ....connections made....are done so prior to closing of walls/floors.

   No this is a wood unit and a chase needs to be framed. How high needs to be insulated?

   I converted from gas to wood burning. We "grew" the dog house (that housed the gas fireplace) all the way up the back wall of the house and extended the roof to cover it. We pulled the gas FP, installed the woodburning unit. Pulled roof off dog house, removed siding up to roof and framed chase. The chimney pipe came in 4ft sections so we insulated and drywalled (all the way to the top) as we went up.
