Installation of A35s and F35s over shear panel?
Hi everyone…we’re building a small room addition and I’m doing the framing and electrical myself. It’s been a while (20 yrs) since I did any “serious” framing, codes for So Cal changed after the Northridge Quake and I need info about where and how closely to space the F 35 plates. Do they go over or under the shear panel, and are they spanning the mudsill and floor joist, and then another spanning the floor joist and bottom plate? I’m guessing about every 4 ft? Read over the plans and I didn’t find this info, as well as F35 placement for the top plate and double top plate. Thanks!

A-35s go from the frieze blocks to the top plate on the inside. F-35's can go on the outside from the frieze block to the top plate. If the blocks are flush with the shear panel put them on top. If they are flush with the framing put them under. One at every block. Rim joist to top plate at every bay. Or every 2'. Typically you only need them at horizontal diaphrams. You might need straps from wall to wall across a floor diaphram. They need to be where your inspector can see them.

Thank you Mike. "where the inspector can see them" very good advice! Much better than the advice the guy who poured our foundation gave me, "we can change it after the inspector leaves" :)
