My little weekend project is moving right along and is now entering year number seven. It will soon be time to install cabinets and vanities along with the appropriate countertops and sinks. In the master bathroom, the vanity tops will be 5/4 hard maple with undermount sink basins.
The questions are: What sealant/adhesive do you recommend between the basin rim and the underside of the wooden countertop? Should that portion of the wood be sealed or left unsealed for better adhesion of the sealant/adhesive? Are the 4 clips provided to attach the basin intended to be the primary support, or am I correct in calling the sealant an adhesive?

The clips are the primary support. Silicone or poly is what I'd use for sealant.
You may want to rethink using wooden countertops for a sink location, though. Not a good plan, IMHO. There is simply no good way to seal the wood, especially the end grain, that will be exposed to moisture, to keep it from developing mold, mildew and rot.

That's what nearly everyone is telling us, but the custom cabinet shop we've dealt with for over 20 years is known for their quality finishes. Also, the maple tops will only be in the master bath, and we tend to be pretty tidy. The next owner can replace them with something impervious to water.
