I’m planning on opening up a first floor exterior wall (17′ long)& I need some advice on how to temporarily support a 2nd story of brick veneer until a steel beam can be installed to carry the load. Any help is appreciated.

Dear Shennes,
This is clearly a problem that has to be site examined by an engineer for an opinion. You're in the wrong neighbourhood.

I should have included more info, but my typing skills cause me to be brief.
An engineer has already sized the beams, and foundation and detailed how the point loads are to be carried to the foundation. What I've been unable to determine through moderate research, is how to temporarily support the brick above while STILL allowing access for the beam to be installed.
I've seen others use "needle beams" (basically rebar threaded through concrete block and supported by posts on both sides of the wall)but not for brick.
I appreciate your reply.

Hi Shennes,
Still a job for an engineer or a technician, ON SITE. The problem is that I have a basic picture of what you want to do and the task before you, BUT its imposible to give informed advise on this post.
At the very least, pictures or sketches would be nice to grasp the situation, but that still doesn't mean that you shouldn't get an engineer involved in planning the structural support of the brick and wall loads to execute the task as suggested by your other engineer.

*When ever I need a temporary support, I try to avoid any point loads. Thus, you would be best off building an entire falsework wall under the load above. Overkill is desirable. I don't think you need an engineer for the falsework, but you need someone with experience to look at it in detail on the site.

The point loads I mentioned are the permanent posts for the I-beam. The falsework you mentioned is probably what I'm looking for. Can you give me any details? Especially how to manuever the beam into place w/ support below. Thanks - I'm stuck.
