its on a slab, a raised foundation, a second-story patio,...??
In most all cases.... Yes and Yes. I just replaced a patio door on the second floor of a house 3 blocks from the beach. It was the original Therma-tru 6068 door that was installed when the house was built 8 years ago. It was leaking so bad that the mdf casing on the inside was growing mushrooms. I'm not even joking. Both jambs and the center post were completely rotted. The sad part is that they had both been painted every other summer and still failed. 8 YEARS!!!!! Therma-tru told me to go kick rocks since it's a coastal application, so I got an Anderson Frencwood gliding door to replace it. When I removed the 1 nail holding the door in, and got the Door out, I was pleasantly surprised that the aluminum sill pan had protected 99% of the framing. Just a little bit of damage to the bottoms of the jack studs. I wasn't expecting a sill pan since the deck that the door opens to is fiberglass. I would have assumed that the glassing went right up and under the door. As for the stiffener for the sill. Why wouldn't you put it in? The sills aren't made to bed down at the front edge. Infact, I think you'll probably be able to get a metal stiffener that fits into the bottom of the sill.
yes on the pan. It protects woof faming from rotting
The 'cleat' is called an apron and is a standard part of the exterior trim detailing

Yeah, it terrible when you woof framing gets wet. Always smells like wet dog. The hounds are especially offended by that.

The woof tends to warp when it get wet - and I'm not fabricating that!View Image bakersfieldremodel.com
