Installing rafters from the inside?
Any tips on adding in new rafters from the inside? I’m installing a skylight in my kitchen that has over spanned 2×4 rafters. I’ve cut new 2×6 rafters that will be doubled up and headed off, but if I cut them to the correct size they won’t fit in between the 24†o.c. bays. What’s better to cut the ridge cut 1 1/2 “ short and stick in a filler after placement, or cut the seat cut short and fill in at the bottom?
Any suggestions are appreciated?

I doubt that cutting either end short would pass code. Perhaps you can stick the bottom end into one corner of the existing bay, hold the top up near the opposite corner, and have a helper push the middle of the rafter over to bend it enough to get it to spring past the ridge. From there whack it over into its final position. If the slope is large, it may be that the bottom would require less bending to spring into place.

Whichever is easier.
You are sistering in and the top or bottom connection is already there for length. The new adition will be strengthening the midspan. That couple of inches at the ends can handle it.
