I am installing a Velux skylight 32 5/8″ wide , so I will have to cut a rafter. Should I double-up/ sister the two side rafters? The Velux site does not mention this, only says to double up the header. The attic is unfinished. Thanks KDole2

You may or may not need to double up the rafters depending on the size, species, spacing, and loading. But it's probably easier to double them up than to get someone to review the design of them.
I think doubling up the header is asinine unless you just neeed the nailing area. The header is carrying less than one half of one rafter, and over a very short span.
Make sure they're really rafters, not trusses. If they're trusses, don't cut them.
It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to have to paint it.
They are not trusses, but 2x6 rafters with a 12' span
Per local inspectors, we're required to double the header and , I guess it's called, the footer...even if they don't catch an intermediate rafter, I like 'em for nailing both from the roof and ceiling...but then, I have also been accused of being an inine a s s...:) close enough!
Thanks for your help. I doubled up the rafters, and used a double header. The skylight is in and does not leak (after a monsoon). I did discover that the roof shingles are directly on the sheathing without any tar paper. Is that ok? There is a 30" wide membrane trom the drip edge up.
I'm not sure about the tarpaper, there's some real roofers here who can give you more than an opinion, which is the best I can do...sounds like you did good, though, with no leaks through a monsoon...boy, we could use one of them... It's okay, I can fix it!
IMO, no it's not OK, but odds are in your favor. It is when the roof is almost worn out that it is time to start worrying about it unless you've got lots of valleys, snow backing up, low pitches, high winds or... well maybe the odds aren't so much with you. But whatcha gonna do? you can't slide paper up under the shingles now.Excellence is its own reward!
Check your RO dimensions. My catalogue isn't new but I think the frame size you are after is 30-5/8" wide. If indeed you needed 32-5/8", you'd be cutting two rafters. Best of luck.
