hi all i’m chiming in from california north as it is known here in Nelson BC, and just have this simple dilema….is it wise to insulate with non- porous styrofoam below grade and fasten to the foundation walls directly. This is my first use of this forum so i did good enough thanks andy

There are always a number of caveats and points of contention with regard to below-grade wall insulation, the main having to do with how dry things are. But in general, if your walls do not leak during rains, etc, you can fasten closed-cell foam directly to the concrete.
Code generally requires that the foam be covered with a layer of drywall or other flame-retardant covering. Whether or not this is actually necessary for safety is another point of contention.
thanks dan, the place is dry so that helps. i guess the closed cell foam will act as a vapour barrier so i get two birds with one stone. thanks again...cheers andy
