Here in PA we have a statewide code refered to as ‘ACT 222′(1976). This code requires that all ground level slabs that are to be enclosed living space must have a minimum R-10 foam insulation installed around the perimeter of the subfoundation as well as a 1/2″ rigid insulated board thermal break installed between the foundation and the haunch where the concrete slab will sit. The problem we’ve always worried about are termites and carpenter ants. They love the stuff! The state has no idea what to do about infestation but demands that the code be met. Pest control guys whince when they see it being installed. Any suggestions to prevent future problems for the homeowners?
