I need some input on insulating the floor of my house. I have 1930’s bungalow or cottage style house built on piers located in the deep south in Alabama. Currently have a crawl space approximately 20″-24″ and completely open around the perimeter. The recent cold weather has made consider ways to keep the house more comfortable and the utility bills lower. Floor construction consists of 3/4″ planks with 3/4″ hardwood throughout the house. Joists on 24″ centers. I’m planning on installing r-19 batts between the joists. My current plan is to staple the batts to the joists just as you would to the wall studs. My only concern is over time how this will hold up. I’m afraid the batts will sag and maybe fall. Also not sure if I should go back with a visquene vapor barrier or is the vapor barrier on the batts adequate?
