I just added a 10″X18″ sheet metal duct that will provide fresh, outside air to 100K BTU gas furnace and 38K BTU gas water heater in my basement. The duct takes up almost all the space between two joists in the basement ceiling and is about 13 feet long. The basement is being finished and will be heated and cooled by a small heat pump. Should I try to inslulate this duct?

James,
By all means, do insulate the ductwork to prevent condensation problems.
Is there not a better route for your ductwork that would be closer?
*Please elaborate on why you need to indroduce fresh outside air to your furnace and hw tank.Pete Draganic
