Need some ideas. Because of family with asthma problems I need to get rid of the indoor dust factory (carpet), and replace it with either vinyl or wood. But here’s the problem….I’m on a concrete slab. Having grown up in a house (1960’s) that had vinyl tile on a slab, I know how cold that floor can get even here in the South, (Memphis). And yes, my slab has an insulating layer, but a few weeks of Winter definitely puts a detectable coolness on the exposed surfaces of the slab inside the house. I have 8-foot ceilings, so there’s not much vertical room to play with, and because of a couple of horror stories I’ve heard, I’m a bit wary of installing a radiant system on top of the existing slab under the new flooring. There seems to be quite a bit of articles and info out there if a house has a conventional wood subfloor, but not so many for existing concrete slabs. Have any of you got some ideas and/or experiences insulating between the slab surface and non-carpet flooring material?
Thanks,
Tack
