I am about to start refurbishing one of my bathrooms (no big rearrangement, just replace old stuff with new). I think I will end up replacing the sheet rock on at least one wall. This wall is partly against a cold attic and partly against the living room. The present insulation is paper backed fiberglass – 30 years old.
This is in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. Hot humid summers; mild winters (it snows almost every year).
I am attracted to the idea of removing the fiberglass, and replacing it with rigid foam such as the 2″ pink rigid insulation board that Home Depot and everybody else sells. The objective would be to increase the thermal insulation to the attic, and increase the sound insulation to the living room.
Is this a bad idea?
