I have had lots of experience with the house floor planning software that’s available today. It’s fun to be able to walk through a house before you build it. A look from outside is even possible if you ignore the roof (this one is a Saltbox and the software can’t figure it out, or at least my intentions are not properly conveyed).
I am looking for a relatively user friendly CAD program that does everything. Plumbing stacks, wiring, HVAC, framing engineering requirements, you know, everything. Is there such a beast out there?
What do the best CAD programs do anyway?
Thanks,
Bill

There 's a nice company in Coeur d'Alene (sic.) called A.R.T. & their CAD, is Chief Architect, version 6.0, it does everything you're looking for, for less than $1000. It's the full blown version of 3d Home Architect.
see them at :

*I use "Vector Works" from Diehl Graphsoft and does everything from client friendly fluff walkthroughs to the hard fact stuff the building dept wants for permits etc. Will do blueprint quality with the right printer or send designs out for printing. Helluva lot easyer than the cad used in the past. Contact at http://www.diehlgraphsoft.comfor more info and a demo cd,(actual program minus save and print commands) the'll send for free. I paid around 800 bucks, but well worth the price when you see it!
