I was traveling in Sweden a couple weeks ago and saw a sign on the freeway for this web site:
www.fonsterfabriken.com
OK, that came out as plain text, not a hot link. Let’s try this:
http://www.fonsterfabriken.com
Click on “Montering” and scroll down to see instructions in Swedish on how to install a window.
If I’m reading their chart correctly, a two sash casement window 12 x 18 deci-meters (about 48″ x 72″) sells for 3285 Kroner, which is about $328.50 U.S. And that’s double glazed. They don’t sell anything less than double glazed with the winters they have there.
In traveling around Stockholm, Goteborg, and Oslo, one thing I noticed is that there aren’t any double hung windows to be seen. It’s all casement, awning, and hopper, and some fancy awning/hopper combination hardware with extra lever arms. There are also a lot of places where they use a large fixed lite with a much smaller casement or awning in the same opening.
I sure hope somebody on this board reads Swedish…. 😉
