I’m hoping that someone can help me find a shutter. The home owner has decided that a louvered shutter would look better than a flat cabinet door, so i’m scrounging around looking for one. The prices for these things are astronomical! Does anyone have a inexpensive place to purchase these?
Thanks

Yep. I think that "flame" mahogany and tiger maple mek beautiful panels, but I also know that they are hugely more expensive.
Does the HO think that a louvered panel door will be the same price as a flat panel?
Who is doing the casework? If it's an outside supplier, you are going to have fun getting two different vendors "on the same page." If you are willing to build the doors, and the louvers don't need to be operable, you might could lover them yourself. Won't be a quick or easy task.
I'm thinking that I'd build a jig to drill holes along the stiles, and use a dowel in the end of the slats. Glue the rails to one stile, then set all of the louvers into one side. Then glue the rails to the other stile. Now, rotate all the slats together & finish as a whole. Width of the slat sets the overlap. ëQue Voila! Slatted doors. Router table with a beading bit to turn out the miles of slat stock would likely be handy. A jig setup on a drill press would be handy for drilling the slat ends uniformly. Hmm, Norm's New Yankee workshop would really be convenient . . .
Did some cad & cyphering: A 3/16 x 2" slat at 1 3/4" on center looks pretty good, lays back about 7° or so.
