I stumbled onto this site researching some info and must say I’m impressed. I am a former machinist who worked his way up to tool and die maker. Got sick of working indoors and started driving a dump truck. A while back we were working on a single family home that lasted several years (it’s a big place) and the owner asked me to come on board for maintenance issues. Having had a background in most phases of construction I took the job. 15 years later I’m still here and have been the boss for 13 of those years. Most everything is sub’ed out now. Very little hands on anymore. I’ve been lurking for about 2 months here and think that I can add some good input at times. I’m not a basher by any means.
Anyway, I’m in the process of building a vacation home up on Moosehead Lake in Maine. Do any of you have contacts in that neck of the woods? It’s a fairly simple house, just over 2000 square feet. Not quite an Arts and Crafts or Bungalow but simple by todays standards. If you or someone you know has any interest I’d love to chat about it. At this time I’m waiting for mud season to come and go. Trees are all cut and hauled.

Sounds like a fun project, working up in the Maine woods. I could get into that but I'm stuck in Wisconsin this summer, which isn't so bad either.Best of luck to you.-Dog

Welcome from another machinist!
I'm in management (mostly) now, but have also done a lot of remodeling-type construction, and am also planning to build on a lot we recently bought in the mountains of Arizona.
