Introduction

Tachi | Posted in General Discussion on March 29, 2005 02:05am

Good morning.  I am a recent forum reader, and finally noticed that introductions are appropriate.  Sorry I missed that earlier.

I am 58 and not getting any younger.  Have never been a professional builder, but have been a very frequent amateur builder of new bathrooms, solar systems, garages, additions, minor and major electrical service installations etc. etc.  Grew up in a DIY style environment and have continued that tradition in my own family.  I am an electronic engineer by training, a customer service and software engineering manager historically, and currently an applications engineer supporting a US company designing and supporting energy management equipment throughout Asia.  Travel 90% of the time, now.  My family, including a new granddaughter live in Tucson.

I have dreamed of building my own home for 30 years, and may soon have that opportunity on land in southern Colorado near the Rockies.

So, while designing a new home, I am here to listen and learn, and ask a question or two!  And, enjoy the process, too.

Thank you.

Regards,

Tachi

Thanks for the welcome.  "Tachi" is actually a Polish diminuitive of "daddy", which became my moniker about 25 years ago when my son, the IV, and my Father, the II, were all in the same locale.  Later, it turned out to be a good nickname in Japan where I lived for several years.  Means 'sword'.  So, it stuck.  My real name, Todd, is difficult to pronounce in many Asian languages.  And I spend a great deal of my time here in Asia.  I happen to be in Tokyo, at the moment.  Flew in from Seoul this morning.

I have been enjoying Breaktime, already, and expect it will continue.  Great subjects, and pretty nutty people.  Sounds like home.  (GRIN)

Forgot to ask how I contact Merc1.  I would very much like to get into some construction subjects that are specific to Colorado.

Thanks, Imerc.  I have been enjoying this BT very much.  Great tool.

I heard a rumor that you were from the Colorado area.  You have probably picked up on the thread that I want to build in the Colorado area, as well, in the not so distant future.  Specifically, I am eyballing the Pueblo Country area, La Veta, etc.  Love the mountains, the wildlife, the outdoors, and lots of elbow room!  I intend to build out in the boonies, away from town, although not ridiculously far.  Still need to get the groceries once in a while!  and probably a roll of toilet paper, too.  You know; the minor stuff.

Anyway, I occasionally have a question that could be unique to Colorado.  For example, I didn't know what the frost line was in the Pueblo Cnty area (26"), or if basements were typical.  Just nice to know there is someone out there in 'my' area when I have the area specific question!

          Thanks!

               Tachi,

              Welcome to the Club!

Get a hold of  Hasbeen, he knows the Real Estate market in Southern Colorado. I am sure he could fill you in.

I used to live in Southern Co. in the 80s. Been living outside of Denver for the past 15+ years!

Hope you find that Dream lot for you MT. home!

3 trips a year to restock... subsist the rest of the time... that's what the mountains are for..

TP!? we don't need no stinkin' TP...

Teller county went deeper than 48" with the frost line the last several years... Ceptics were freezing just before Xmas... Plan for what could happen.. think what if...

            IMERC,

Thanks!  Will keep the frost line point in mind.  I know very little about septics.  That's another stinking subject....

Thank you, Gunner.  It is certainly getting closer!  But you know, half the fun is the getting there.
