ipe full sun humidity does it splinter
I just read all the comments about Ipe but am still wondering about a comment a friend who’s used it made, he said it split and splintered some in full sun, this after a couple of years. not surprising really but I’m looking for a roof deck material and my kids wont be wearing shoes.
I’m referring to unfinished in all the above, its not a big area so cost isn’t really the point but its an old house so my times already being spent on other maintenance issues and I dont want to create more. By the way the Ipe I’m considering comes made into pallets (2×2) by Bison. any comments

I'd say yes. The Ipe decks we've done that are shaded look much better than the ones in the full sun. I looked at one we did last year about a week ago and wasn't happy at all. It faces west and gets the reflection off the house. I got KD but the boards have shrunk, cupped and split. Next door where we did another deck that is shaded it looks great.
The boardwalk on Toronto's waterfront is made of ipe, and it is exposed to full sun, nasty winter weather, and tons and tons of foot traffic. It has held up incredibly well. I am actually pretty astonished to see how well the ipe has done in those conditions. I can't imagine too many woods faring as well.
