I need to reroof an 11×22 shed addition in the L of our home. To allow standard doors, I am planning to change the roof shape to a flat roof and am considering the IRMA type of covering. Is this a good idea and if so, what size and spacing of rafters and sheathing are needed for the 11′ span? The house has a 2′ overhang. Any suggestions on addition overhang and treatment? I live in Texas.

Hey Howard, I'm gettin' real slow here.....what is IRMA ?
Why can't you reframe for a nice attractive gable, with a nice pentroof detail, to maintain your 2' overhang, across the gable end.
Good looking flat roofs are few and far between. Look at Porte-cochere designs for the best of the bunch. Low slope materials that are relatively attractive and give good service would be some of the granular surfaced modified bitumens such as Soprema's "Colphene" or Monsey "Lo-Slope",
you need a smooth deck surface, use their primer, and both are self-adhesing, release paper back.
Where abouts in Texas ?
*Mike,Thanks for your reply. I live in Dallas. As to the design, we have decided that continuing the slope up and over the addition to give a nice gable will run in the the high $20,000's, at least. I am trying not to overbuild. IRMA is an acronym for Insulated Roof Membrane Application, which is explained at the URL that I have attached. Basically, the insulation and gravel goes on top of the sealed membrane--who would have thought? Hope to hear from you soon and Happy Holidays!
