Has anyone worked with ironwood decking yet? New to me, I’ve checked out the web site and get the cutting and fastening facts. But I would like to hear from some of you guys that have used it, before I start experimenting. It sounds like a great product, but could be a bear to work with.

Do a search in the post archives for Ipe pronounced E Pay. There is a current post on the topic and have been many others over the past few years. In short the product is great but somewhat labor intensive.
I do low voltage wiring on some fairly $$$$$ houses and on the last one, they set the joists and screwed metal "T" brackets to the tops. The brackets have a series of holes and the decking is screwed to them from below with self-drilling square drive screws.

Sound like deckmaster type of concept. If you like that type of method, I'd just use the deck master and get it done a quicker
Not all that bad.
It is IPE`. wood The marketing brand name for one company is Ironwoods, but you can buy it as IPE` from other sources too.
It is heavy and does dull baldes. Wear a dust mask, the dust is irritating

Out here in the Pennsylvania area I just got done pricing the stuff. Best I could find was $4 per linear foot. OUCH.
What were you pricing? 5/4 is not necessary, its just for looks with Ipe. Find out who the distributor is for PA, they'll give you the largest sellers who will probably be the best pricing. In MA, our distributor is Coastal Forest Products in New Hampshire, I think the serve all New England but don't know if they go to PA too. You could give them a call, if they do not serve PA, they will probably know who does.
I was pricing 3/4, not 5/4, and 6" wide boards. If at first you don't succeed, try using a hammer next time...everything needs some extra persuasion from time to time. -ME
Iron wood is a name given to many different woods. In Kenya it is reddish wood from a tree with big leaves a teak relative I bet, in the Congo and Nigeria it is a brown color from a tree with medium leaves an ebony relative probably, here in Va half the folks call locust 'iron wood'. I guess it would depend on where you are as to just what you are calling 'Iron Wood"
yup....and in the PGA....it's "wood's iron"
genericly speaking that is true, but there is a company that has taken a trademark of that anme for marketing purposes.
