Is there a ‘best’ ice & water shield?
1. Have any of you found that one brand (non-granular) of I&WS is better than the other?
2. Also, any issues with putting it on OSB?
3. Any recommendations what to look for in metal roofing brand?
Getting ready to frame a slope on my wrap around porch and wanted to know which brand to put down when I have the decking on. The decking will be OSB. The roofing material will be standing seam metal. Would love to do copper since this is an 1850’s house, but that’s not in the budget. Thanks in advance for your insight.

Grace Ultra is meant to be used under metal .
It's quite pricey , but a really nice product .
Thanks for the input - I hadn't heard of the titanium udl before. Checked out their website - looks like pretty neat stuff. My main concern was not being able to have the metal on for a month or so (since I haven't ordered the roofing yet). But it looks like the titanium holds up well being exposed for a bit also.
Any suggestions on standing seam roofing brands? (unless the theslateman or Seeyou can come to Ohio and install a copper roof!) Thanks.

Where in Ohio? Seeyou is in Lex KY, and I'm 25 miles south of him. I don't mind traveling, and I am a sub with Seeyou.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

I'm in New Holland, Ohio. About 30 minutes north of Chillicothe.
Boy, if I could afford you guys, I have plenty of work besides the porch roof that I can't seem to find the time to do, (box gutter seams need soldered, a couple of valleys on my slate roof need replaced, etc, etc...).
Piffin - thanks for the advantec tip. Approximately, how much is that a sheet (for 3/4")? I'll have to search where I can get that near me.
Thanks again to all that replied.
$23.65/ sheet Advantech T&G

Swings up and down jst like plywood and osb, but usually compares close to good fir ply at the time. Last I priced the two, they were five cents a sheet from each other

I had assumed you wanted the I&W becauise of low pitch and requirements by the roofing manufacturer. If you have a good 3/12, then the Titanium or Rooftopgaurd II is all you need.

I&W over an unheated and unfurnished space is kinda wastefull $ wise dontcha think?
Go with Titainium UDL and maybe afford the copper with the savings.

I agree. Not only is it over a porch but he is using ss steel. Why bother?
I was involved on the re-creation of an 1860's schoolhouse (then) / community center (now). It sounds similar to what you are doing.
The roof was covered with OSB; the lower part - looked to be about 3 ft - had a layer applied to it that looked like black plastic, but was actually a rubbery material that, with a little time in the sun, actually adhered to the OSB. Shingles were nailed over this.
The porch was covered, but open, and the decking was solid T&G over OSB. The spaces under the deck were completely closed off by the concrete footings. I don't recall any underlayment being used.
I agree with the others that like Grace I&WS best. I try not to use use Grace because of their past. ie. poisoning the drinking water in Woburn,MA and causing many children to die from various ailments but at the end of the day if I have an area that is going to be very prone to leakage I'll bite the bullet and use Grace, for run of the mill eve protection I usually use IKO.
Use Advantec from Huber instead of OSB.
OSB swells and telegraphs thru the metal and it does not hold fasteners well.
Can't say about best I&W. I think I have only once in forty years used anything other than Grace.

If your heading for I&W try the Certainteen, not totally smooth surface, but in the price range it's a winner, Seals much better than GAF.
I like Elk. Not sure if they even make it any more, but it's about half the price of GAF and works well in the cold.
Elk was bought by GAF.http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image
Blah.... They ruined it then. I was buying elk IWS @ $52 for 2 square rolls from the lumber yard. GAF was I think $85 for their 1 1/2 square rolls from the home center. It's been a while since I used it though.
