I've got the compressor, and, indeed it is a "cutie." It's great for punch work, and even better on a third floor. It is definitley worth the 100 bucks I paid, and that's just in saved trips to the truck...my back thinks it's worth even more<G>
My bud has one... We used it for something - forget what. Cute but no b@lls though... I don't think it quit running the whole time it was pluged in...
That's exactly the information I was looking for.
I was thinking it would be good for punch and warranty work, since the Senco airless line has not performed well.
thanks,
darcy
I think it would be fine with the pinner, and maybe for shooting a few of something else. I just didn't want you to think you can leave your old trusty at home... Matt
You mention your disappointment with the Senco airless line. I have been out of the trades for awhile, but I'm back in now. I still have my Senco finish guns, and back then there was an "airless" that ran on CO2 cartidges, which I wasn't real impressed with. Now I recently see that DeWalt has an "airless" finish gun which runs off an 18 volt battery. I can't figure that out at all. Is this the same as the Senco? What is the mechanical principle these things are running on? Is the DeWalt any better than the Senco? What does anyone think of these new airless finish guns - are they all junk?
The 'Bamer' was junk. The Paslode are nice but...smelly fumes and the fuel cells can gum up in cold weather. Sencos ok but... a hurry up and wait triger and the mechanical desighn is flawed (friend is a tool repair tech) Just looked at and played with the new Dewalt cordless. Nice desighn good features and can fire as fast as you pull the trigger. 18v a liitle heavy though.
I've got the 18v Senco 15ga when it first came out. It's OK, and has been reliable, but the hurry up and wait always bugs me. What this means is that you pull the trigger, and then the thing makes a wirring niose as it charges up (or something) and then fires the nail - maybe about a 1 or 1.5 second delay - wierd...Matt
"Now I recently see that DeWalt has an "airless" finish gun which runs off an 18 volt battery...What is the mechanical principle these things are running on?"I could be mistaken, but I believe pulling the trigger starts a motor that spins a flywheel. Once the flywheel is up to speed, something is put in its way and the force is delivered to the nail.Rich BeckmanAnother day, another tool.
Porter-Cable has a finish gun that runs on air or battery! Haven't seen it in person or used it, but I think it makes more sense.
Heck, I might just have to get one in the store so I can check it out.
Aaron just bought one too, I'm sure he'll tell us all about it...and then he'll let me use it!"If 'tis to be,'twil be done by me."
Very good! I would really appreciate a tool review, since I can't really test all the tools in the store.
Keep me informed, thanks.
ive seen pics, let me know what you think once you play with it but it looks kinna bulkey to me.. i would certaintly love to be proven wrong though as i could see the utility______________________________________________
--> measure once / scribble several lines / spend some time figuring out wich scribble / cut the wrong line / get mad
The trouble is, playing with a tool in the store is a whole lot different than actually using it for work. Heck we only have one chunk of wood to shoot into! (And boy, is it full of nails and staples!)
We'll look to Aaron for a review.
Phil, btw, who's Aaron?
one chunk of wood?
ya don't have any money in the budget for another?
Aaron Rosenthal, he comes in here quite a bit...anopther Vancouverianite."If 'tis to be,'twil be done by me."
I got myself the same compressor but comboed with a 22 gauge nailer for Christmas. Same price. I like the compressor, and pinner.
Who Dares Wins.
So ya wanted a review<G>It does work great with a pinner. Shoots about 8-10 1 1/2" 18ga brads before cycling (about 15 1" brads), takes about a min to pump up. It will keep shooting and setting while it's cycling. It's veewy, veewy quiet. It's certainly not a production thing, but what production compressor can you carry in the same hand that's holding your gun and hose ? Don't worry, we can fix that later!
I'll agree with the others. It's a great punch list compressor. it's great for the pin guns and I've also used it with the SFN1 with fair results although the compressor is going to run most of the time and it's not built for speed.
I also tried the SFNII on it and the heads would start standing a little proud after just few nails.
it's worth the 100 bucks. It's going to be interesting to see how long it lasts.
Small.
Quiet.
Aside from the usefullness on the job, I think the compressor by itself would be a great homeowner's compressor...
What are the chances it would hold up to automotive air tools ? Probably not much with such a small tank, but I'd like to find out anyway.
:)
The person you offend today, may have been your best friend tomorrow
I bought it when I was fed up with my pasload not firing, for punch work. I like the compressor but the brad nailer that came with it is a pos.
It will do about 6 shots on my 15 ga finish gun before cycling, and maybe 10 with a pinner.
I've heard good things about the little Thomas ...
looking to add it to the van some time this year.

Jeff,
I've heard you talk up the Thomas line before, but where do you get them? No one up this way carries them. Wouldn't mind taking a look at one...
I never met a tool I didn't like!
when I bought mine I couldn't find one at any of the usual spots ...
so I looked them up on the net and called direct.
They gave me a list of places kinda/sorta near .... one was a lumberyard about 45 min away. Somehow we got on the subject of pricing ... I probably just asked ....
Guy on the line said ... "Oh, they list for $XXX.XX .... but tell Jimmy there I said you weren't gonna pay more than $xxx.xx!
So I did! Coupla online places carry them ... Amazon/Tool Crib does now but not the model I wanted ... they have the slightly cheaper, but less powerful and lots louder version.
I'm sure I've seen the little one .. there are 2 versions of the small one .. a 1/2hp and a 3/4 ... I'm thinking of the 3/4 hp ...on line for sale.
When the time comes .. I'll check the online pricing then give Jimmy a call.
Job I'm on right now is 15 min past Jimmy's lumberyard ... Ambridge Lumber for anyone in the area ... found out ... if Jimmy don't have it .... he'll get it! He don't care what he sells ... as long as he's selling ...
Jeff
U want I should bring mine to CalFest for a demo? Buck Construction

Thanks for the info.
You could bring it to the fest and others would probably be grateful, but I'm not sure I can attend. We are dropping my daughter off at Cedarville U. in Ohio (about an hour from Columbus, I think) the week after, and two 3,000 mile round trips in 2 weeks isn't in the plans, not to mention the lost work time. But we'll see.
Thanks again.
BTW, good luck next weekend. Gonna be a tough game, and I think the odds are about even, but I wouldn't be surprised if the Steelers won. Though I'm rooting for the Pats. If the Seahawks can't play, though, I'm not 100% into it.
I never met a tool I didn't like!
well then you'll be coming somewhere near Pgh as ya pass thru, right?
maybe I'll meet ya at the interstate and run a long cord out ....
