I’ve never seen crown used as casing. Until last night.
I have a weakness for the show “Flip that House”. Let’s leave it at that. In this episode, a person quit her job to flip a house in 4 weeks. It wound up taking 4 months but she actually sold for a profit. My favorite part was when the show’s host was doing an open-house walkthrough, she pointed out that the casing didn’t match. The ‘casing’ around a refrigerator cubby was actually a piece of crown nailed on the flat. Fancy.

Our local Chinese Food Carry-Out/Eat-In Restaurant has crown mldg for chair rail mldg....
If you're going to start talking about what is done badly on that type of show...
we're going to have to stop all the other threads on breaktime in order to make enough time to cover everything. < g >

Yeah, I hear you. This just struck me as really funny for some reason. I'm sure the buyers will love it.
Do you think the buyers eventually see the show about their house and cringe?

Well, I wouldn't cringe about trim stuff but I've seen episodes where structural and mechanical shortcuts were taken that would really piss me off if I were the buyer. There was an episode in Florida where they crashed through the septic tank by accident. No one had seen one before or knew what it was so they wanted to fill it up with dirt. Luckily someone stepped in and got them to fix it.
I've been seriously wondering what is preventing the poor saps who buy those houses from seeing the episode of their house being butchered and cobbled in such a scarey manner, and calling their attorney the next day.
I certainly hope a person would have a basis for some sort of lawsuit. after all, there is certainly no shortage of evidence on film." If I were a carpenter"
the bad part is.... it's the norm... and.... most folks don't know to expect better...
people hate to invite me over if they are have'n any work done... they'd prefer not to know....
My plumber/ friend/mensa dude... who i consult with on a ton of stuff before i do it... just nice have'n another opinion that is based on experience and real thought... had this talk today... I'm need of a carpenter that can do more than hang a prehung door... the big problem comes in that i'll see his work before it's covered in drywall...and i have this thing about plumb & square....
seems to me.... and this is just me... but i have yet to find anyone who can see what needs to be done... form a plan on how to do it... and know what it will take to do same... and... actually be able to do it... once you get past that part... they can't steal my tools, would be nice if they had their own, and their own way to work, and be sober and not on meth or crack.... in 4 years of looking... I haven't found one...
don't get me wrong there are alot of guys who work hard & can bang something out and it passes... there is a need & place for this work... and... 90% of people just don't know the difference because it's all they have ever seen... I'm sure I'm part of the problem because if a guy spends a whole day frame'n a 20ft wall... it's the last day he'll be work'n for me I don't care how plumb, square & perfect it is...

There are two shows on different cable nets, "Flip This House" and "Flip That House". Sometimes they're on at the same time, so you can -- er -- flip back and forth between them..... ;-)

Im trying to figure out the deadlines they have, I guess its for the suspence part, I do like it when contractors come by and want no part of the job,
I've never used crown as casing. But I can recall at least one instance where I used a small profile crown as part of a larger casing.
I was trying to match some ancient stuff. Not enough to warrent having it milled though.
Came close enough by building it up, even the archy asked where in the world did I find it?
Just pointed to my router and kept working like I couldn't be bothered explaining such minor details.

Home Improvements
Here in Colorado Springs, a lot of the homes in my neighborhood that were built in the 80's use standard door trim as baseboards. It looks pretty weird. I have replaced most of mine.
Not much looks worse than small baseboard.
And if that standard door profile is what I think it is I'm half inclined to think no baseboard might look better.
be but so much for IMHO
the first house i redid into an office for our company.... some.... 20yrs ago... i had to replace all the decking... the luberyard gave me a deal on a huge quanity of mixed 1x8 pine... everything from 6ft to 18ft... had been in inventory for years.. so whatever warp'n & crack'n it was going to do it had done... as i started decking i noticed some was very nice stuff... so i'd toss it aside.... with little more than a router and a little sanding i had all my baseboard... in about 4 hrs work... (routed & sanded... not cut & installed...) still looks good today... IMHO...
i hate small base.... just screams "cheap" while you can do something that looks good and doesn't cost much

Always enjoy stories like that.
I've a pile hanging in a shed of old 10 inch baseboard taken out of old victorians before the demo dozers arrive to haul it all to the dump.
be a hijacker in the way of the dump route
