Hi Everyone,

Japanese style cedar is what it is.
Few people understand it. Nobody agrees what it is, how to learn about it, or who's responsible for it. It has never been more important

With a name like Zena I thought you might be looking for sword play techniques (Kendo).
For Japanese style fence information you might try serching the internet for the terms "Tokusa," "Shorido" or just plain old "bamboo fence."

You are on a role tonight, Kevin.I never met a tool I didn't like!
Oh.
I thought the question referred to the Oriental art of recovering stolen property

There is also iaido (my favorite) if we are bandying either budo or bujitsu about.
If one is googling, "japanese garden gate" will garner some interesting links, too.
Hi, my first post here in these forums.
We've got quite a lot of authentic Japanese fencing here
at my house--both "cedar" and bamboo. Although I don't work
on it myself, I spend a lot of time talking to the gardener
who literally makes it and remakes it all by hand (cuts the bamboo down and splits it, etc.).
So I could probably tell you some things about it, but
you might not like what you hear. Mainly, in the long run,
the real thing is about the most expensive kind of fencing you can build. So I would stick to a small, manageable section of fence
at an entrance or in a gazebo or something.
This book has a number of line drawings of various garden
fence styles:
