I recently bought the Jet 16″ bandsaw, my first. While I have followed the set-up in great detail, I am very troubled by the the fact that, after several days idle, the blade slips off on the first start. Is this unusual? After re-setting the blade, it works fine (except for dulling the blade when it hits the housing, etc.). Perhaps I should loosen the tension after use and plan to do set-up when I need to use it. Al,
Something doesn't sound right here.
I've got an old Delta/Milwuakee band saw and have never had the blade slip off.
You may not have enough tension on the tire wheels. This could make the blade slip. Be sure the blade is as centered as you can get it on the tire. It shouldn't scrape the stop bearings on a free hand turn although they should be set a fraction off the blade.

*Ed: I've done all that. The tech at JET tells me that I should back off the tension between my infrequent uses, but that seems to be an unnecessary aggrevation. By the way, my saw's a 14", not a 16". My computer is not located in my woodworking shop.Al
*Al,I don't know man, maybe you got a bum saw. I could leave mine sit for months all tuned up and ready to go and the blade wouldn't slide off.Jett is not my favorite brand, but all brands sell a lemon every once in awhile.I'd make them send me a new one.Good luck,Ed. Williams
*I remember reading, years ago, that you are supposed to back off the tension between uses so the blade doesn't get stretched. In fact, I think nicer band saws have a scale and arrow attatched back there so that you can dial it back to the same spot next time you use it. Still, your blade shouldn't be coming free the next day. I think it takes quite a while for these things to stretch enough for that. - jb
