Went to do a job tonite at a Coldwater Creek womens clothing outlet. Sunday nite, leave the house at 4:30 to get there by 6 Set up,start cuutting the vinyl and store manager says to me, you can’t stay here if the security people do not come. Security was supposed to have been set up by painting contractor and store. I have driven 140 miles round trip, set up my work table and have taken down all obstacles in the area to be worked. Total of 5 hours on a Sunday. What would be a reasonable charge for this screw up. I’m thinking $200.00 What do you guys think?

$ 200 seems cheap if you were guaranteed access to the work site.
It's a Sunday; you should be charging min. of time and a 1/2. Probably 2x time.
And include something for travel time and gas.
I want to be fair, you are right, this screwwd up my whole week. I wanted to get a good head start and now it is all blown by someone elses incompetence. And I burned 1/4 tank getting there at $2.94 a gallon.
I don't do commercial work, but I do do rentals. Only happened a few times, but if the tennant screwed up and was not there to let me in, I split the difference with the landlord. I book half a day and can't get in; I asked for 2 hours pay. I'm not sure if it is that the few landlords I deal with are super nice or if it Maryland's laws are bent towards renters. WHen I was in college we had a landlord who would come in and help himself to beers and other 'toxicants.
$2000.00
Whatever your normal day rate is plus another 50% for weekend/night.
You were ready, willing and able to perform your part of the bargain. Unless you have some special arrangement with them, they took a full day (night) of your labor. If they have a huge problem with that, let them work it out with the painter.
Get paid for your time. That's what you do for a living, right. ;-)

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
$200 is a bargain. Don't drive the market down with that weak price. Send a message; inform them you are serious about your work AND equally as serious about your time.
hey...
my bill was better than a grand over that 200$$$

...your standard rate X2 for a Sunday based on a full 8(minimum) hour shift PLUS mileage/gas...
Not your error...theirs; and not being professional enough to confirm everything for non-standard hours.
bum
...keep smiling...makes 'em wonder what you're up to !!
The time you drove both ways, the time you were there, .50 a mile for the vehical. Fair, justifiable if someone asks and I frankly wouldn't work for them again if they gave me any grief over it. DanT
