I showed up at a fire rebuild job that I am doing for a customer on Friday morning, to find that some kids had broken in and busted out some windows. The damage was minimal 2 windows @ $200+/- each it could have been worse. I got lucky and didn’t lose a single tool, the JobBox was in the sub-basement cabled to the beam post along with some other big ticket tools.
I am looking at buying a cheap wireless security alarm that I can take with me at the end of the job. I just want something that will make a bunch of noise if someone gets in.
What are you guys doing to increase security of your jobsites? I looked at the Dewalt system but they want a ridiculous amount of money for it. Do you leave lights on all night to show any movement inside? How about temp exterior flood type lights to illuminate the outside?

i built some.... look on ebay... i use a voice card/ modulator? a transformer, and a motion detector and a voice/alarm horn... i mount it all in a 8x8 pvc carlon box but you can use anything...
the motion detector when activated powers the 24v transformer which powers up the voice card (ebay $9) sends the message out the horn "you have violated a protected area... the police were called...leave imeadiately" then it has like 5 loud beeps and then repetes... you can change the message or make it horn sound only... you can set how long it will yell ect.... on the motion detector
i have some that have lights also... what i usually buy is the on sale 2 light motion detector mount it on the carlon box use wires from one light to pwer up the transformer and put a screw in outlet into the other one... then if i want a remote light to come on i just plug an extenion cord into that and i'm not light'n up where the "alarm box is"... i make em all together but you could make the horn remote also... i then just plug em in as i leave each day... i have mounted on the ceiling with a few screws and the motion pointed down in an area everyone has to cross... I also leave a cheap jobsite radio play'n 24/7 near the motion ... i just figure they'd head to the sound to steal the radio...
I also have & use the cheap harbor freight motion activated fake cameras... when you walk past a red light comes on and they pan back & forth... $7ea on sale
most of what i use to build em is cast off stuff 24v hvac transformer... old drive thru or security system horns... any plastic or metal box i can find... old computer powercord... usually have to buy the motion detector light and the voice card so... $20-$25 bucks invested each and about 30 min build time ... if you build 3 or 4 at once you can do 4 in an hour...
I just looked into a cell phone alarm... (alot like my cheap box alarm) it sets up with as much stuff as you need motions ect... but it has a built in cell phone that will call you if i's set off.... even had battery back-up if they cut the power... I thought this would be cool if i could set it up as a "free or $5" second line on my sprint plan... but you had to use another service....I'm sure there are many folks here who could make this work with any cell phone programed to call your number... if you answered I guess you could listen to what was going on at the site? you'd see the caller ID and know what ir was... even set a ring tone for it... have a built in charger in the box ect... doubt it would be hard for someone who knew how... might be funny take'n it in to the provider and say'n "i'd like to activate this phone on my account..."

You could set that voice card to sayfirst time - "Leave the area immediately or face dire consequences"Second time - " Hit the ground face down MFers" folllowed by the staccato sound of autmatic rounds. You could find the baddies by following the brown stains dripping down their pants legs next to the footprint

we have used the dewalt system on some of our framing trailers. They work ok but they have a lot of false alarms. Which means the police show up and the lead framer is contatec by cell quite abit. We stopped using them just too much hassle and cost.
