I am planning an addition. The house has a stone front and aluminum siding on the dormers, sides and back. I am thinking of having the addition aluminum sided, keeping the old siding on the rest and then painting it all one color. The addition is mostly going to be doors and windows. As far as cost, does this sound outrageous?
I really don’t like the looks of vinyl and would have a hard time committing to a color, although I just recently heard that vinyl siding can be painted, too. Aluminum is probably not much better but thought that residing the whole house with vinyl would be just as expensive as just doing the addition in aluminum.
Does anyone have any opinions on this?

check suppliers - your decision might be made for you.
around here it getting very difficult to find aluminum siding; except in some very basic styles and colors. And the color is usually white.
vinly seems to have pretty much forced out alum.
Thanks for the reply. The contractors I have been in touch with have told me that it is available in a style that is very close to what I have. Once it is painted, no one would be able to tell the difference. You certainly are right about aluminum becoming more scarce. Most people have looked at me like I have two heads when I tell them I want aluminum siding which is why I posted the question. Maybe it is so outlandishly priced now that it is ridiculous for me to get it.
Just can't see vinyl siding the whole house for the price of doing one add on and painting. Plus the fact that the aluminum seems to go better with the house - 1960 Cape cod.
I will probably have to try and price this out myself to know for sure.
