Was given 55 gallons of contaminated kerosene meaning it had frozen water in it and was told to pump off the kerosene only from the top which I did. It now seems that the heater is giving off more odor and perhaps more harmful exhaust even though the heater seems to be working fine. Does anyone have any experience with this situation?

Contaminated with what? Pure water shouldn't be a problem, but if it's kerosene that was used for washing stuff, of if it's been contaminated with something like antifreeze then there's no telling what you could be in for. Probably good for heating a drafty shop, but I wouldn't use it indoors.
