Kitchen cabinet installation question
I’m installing some Omega Dynasty cabinets in our kitchen, and find the factory instructions odd. They have me drilling a 7/32″ hole for a #8 drywall screw.
First off, I’m not using drywall screws – I’ve snapped off too many. I’m using Fastap instead. So no need to tell me not to do that.
Second, and the reason for this message – 7/32″ is practically the size of the head, and I drove the first screw all the way through the rather soft plywood back. Any idea why they want me to use such a large hole?

My guess, and that's all it is, is to ensure you don't damage the "soft plywood back" by forcing a screw through the wood. Try some smaller holes and see how the cabinets install.
Google washer head screws

That hole is just a clearance hole thru the cab. back, ........ try using either a finishing washer with your screws or going to a cabinet screw or washer head screw or truss head screw, all have a larger head to prevent them from being pulled through the cab. back like you describe.......using a 1/8" x 6" long bit for a pilot hole into the studs will help when driving the fasteners......and use a #10 screw.....stick w/ the 7/32" clearance hole........
Did the cab. maker really say to use a drywall screw? Shame on them!!
