Hello,
I’m ready to re-tile the kitchen floor in my apartment; the landlord has supplied vinyl composition tiles ( Mannington Commercial ), 12” x 12” along with Chapco 750 clear spread adhesive. ( It’s 2 different color tiles, I’m looking to lay them down diagonally, as the room’s base cabinets are clearly not square to the walls). The existing 9″ x 9″ tiles are the originals, approx 40 years old – do I necessarily have to rip them up ? Would the adhesive work right over the existing tiles ( which are – vinyl? Was vinyl used to make tiles back then? Or might they be linoleum composition ? ) ? Thanks !

if the existing tile is secure, i'd leave them alone and go over top
other wise they should be removed or new ply underlay placed on top
be aware that 40 year old tile may contain asbestos
caulking is not a piece of trim
