I use the common ones with the hard shell for paving stone work. They only cost about $15.00, but as I get older I’ve been looking to try something better.
FH had an article not too far back on this very topic. I’ll have to find that and maybe experiment with some alternatives this year.
Have seen the Patella T but have not tried them yet. I’m a little leery because I think they will wear fast on the abrasive surface of the pavers.

I have used patella-t's for 3 months all day most days, mostly lay out on concrete surfaces and I think they're great. After a couple days of tweaking (tightness of straps, exact location on knee, eliminating bunching of jeans under straps etc..), I find them comfortable, warm, and very supportive around knee cap.
I have not warn them on hot days yet, so I can't speak about breathability, but I definitely recommend them and my knees are happy.
I purchased thru amazon.com and rec'd them in 3 days. Stiff price but so far I think they're worth it. I've seen too many carpenters with bad knees retire unable to walk without pain.

I'm looking for opinions from people who wear kneepads almost all day everyday. What type? Have you tried Patella T's?
*Bought a pair of baseball catchers knee/shin guards at play-it-again sports, cut the things about half way down the shin, and love em' to death, end of day it's like I hav'nt even been on the floor.
*Try volleyball knee pads. They are VERY thick, very comfortable, and stay put on my knees. I wear them directly over my knees, not on top of my pants.John

*I use the hardcap knee pads for most things. Use the flat leather pads with the felt lining for roofing or when the hardcaps seem too hard.
