I have patched up a Frankenstein monster of a plaster ceiling and was thinging about hidding my sins under a coat of sprayed on ceiling material. the knock-down effect appeals to me. So, how flat does the ceiling have to be to get a half way decent job. I am running out of time , or I would keep messing with it.

Knock-down does not cover sins very well. It only looks good if the surface its going on looks good. Around here they use sprayed "acoustic" (popcorn) to cover ceilings that they don't want to "keep messing with". Just mask everything well, it gets all over the place.
