My main toolset is Craftsman, bought in the late seventies. Last summer, I bought a new $800 set, a special setup that was almost all sockets and drive tools. I was pretty dissapointed at the quality…chrome plating is not as good, it has a brownish tint on many pieces. They are not finished as nicely, just don’t feel as good. And they have a few nicks, pits, and finishing marks that the older tools don’t have. Even the brand/size stampings are inconsistant.
I just picked up a set of their stubby combination wrenches, fully polished…I feel that these on on par with the Snapon and Mac tools I have.
Anybody have experiece with the Kobalt sets sold by Lowes? Looked close at them? I’d be afraid of them, frankly. They have a lifetime warranty, but where will they be in four years, when Lowes is then selling another brand? You almost feel that is their plan of business.

I put my hand on a few Kobalt tools, not bad for the price. From the look of the box end, I would suspect Snap-On.
