In my bathroom to hell remodel adventure , we decided on Kohler fixtures and picked out the Memoirs style .
The faucet was the Memoirs widespread lavatory faucet in Brushed Nickel…….obtaining this is another story
soon after installing this $$$ setup small black spots started to appear on surfaces facing the bowl ! the booklet warns against using “harsh chemicals” or abrasives……., (the website sends you to the same admonitions)
I have tried everything ,,Brasso, Silvo, Wright’s , peanut butter,
( after I made PBJ ) , baking soda, nothing works !
I think the spots are toothpaste. ..TOOTHPASTE??
Has anyone had this problem ?
I am thinking about using something like 4000x paper to polish this thing, but I have better things to do

Well, toothpaste does have tin fluoride in it...
It sounds like a bad plating job from the Chinese factory that made the parts. They need to make it right under the warranty.
They probably forgot to mention that toothpaste can damage the finish......just a oversight I'm sure, who uses toothpaste in a bathroom?I was afraid someone would say warranty This faucet is the 4th one from Kohler that I would finally accept the others were such poor quality, I refused them all.
the dist. in Fla. finally hand picked a unit after I had run out of patience with the branch office in South Bend. there's gotta be another way"
I will never buy brass finish anything.
my 10 year old Kohler bath faucets in upstairs have a few big spots- black, bad. will not come out.
No one uses upstairs bath (no kids) . bad quality - companies always say we have this new no tarnish brass--- the bs in brass is right
uh, mine are nickel, not brass, but it sounds like similar problems. This has been very disappointing, I blame myself for the other headaches in there, but we thought that buying a BIG brand name would be trouble free and it just adds insult to injury. I made damn sure that I was not welcome back at that branch where I ordered this in the beginning, after all the BS trying to have one that looked like the $$$ it cost !! Kohlers site seems to make it impossible to write to them directly, but I have not looked there in the past year, they will most likely tell me to contact the place I ordered it with"
Once in a while these manufactors surprise you. Do you have the paperwork that came wiith the product? If you do there should be a 800 number to call. This may be your best bet. Luck.
I found the papers and there is a 800# I 'll give it a try ,, thanks"
I bought an expensive Grohe faucet a few years ago- no 1 800 number - you pay to call- cuts down calls I am sure. May be a German frugality thing?
we looked at Grohe and opted for Kohler, what I have read here,Grohe can be a PITA too !"
I put in a Grohe last year. Flow was too slow due to well water. I posted a question on their website: "How can I remove the flow reducer?"
I got a reply the next day asking me for my address, got 2 new hi flow inserts that week. free
I was impressed..................
Jackpot!!!!! Kohler is sending me an entire faucet as a replacementthanks again toll free # ........go figure"
