We’ve had two 12v Makita drills for about 3 years and have been satisfied with them, but the batteries are now crapping out. Replacement batteries are about $70. We can buy an 18v drill with battery for the same $$, and replacement batteries for an 18v are only about $30. What’s the deal? Is Makita phasing out the 12v and giving us an ‘incentive’ to buy a new drill?
And what good is it to advertise a $30 replacement battery if it’s going to cost $70 by the time you need to replace it? The reason we went with Makita in the first place is because this was the tactic that DeWalt was using. Is this SOP with all manufacturers?
