Can anyone recommend a smooth, easy to use yet solid laminate router? My Bosch just gave out and I’ve never been happy with the depth gauge, which I use a pair of channel locks to tighten. Thanks in advance.

I was going to say Bosch trimmer kit and I don't need the channel locks either...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming....
WOW!!! What a Ride!
I was gonna say Bosch.....but then I remembered that I don't have one.
I've got a PC.....nothing spectacular, but does it's job well. Oh yeah, no channel locks required either.
I was gonna say Bosch..
lately tho' I have been grabbing the rotozip...it' was more unburied in the pile..
I have an ancient Ryobi as well..works good.

Cooter,
In the cabinet shop that I used to work in we had a bosch and a porter cable trim router....you should have seen the pile of dust on that porter cable!
Bosch is the best I have seen. In short: it has alot of power and it keeps the motor square with the base. Porter cable was always out of square and I always had to watch out not to put too large of a profile on it.
Now since you say you are having problems with your bosch that tells me it is really old...maybe a bad model year. Go out and get yerself a new bosch, If I were to recommend anything else and you bought it, you'd be cursin' my name every time you got it out.

Cooter,
Another vote for Bosch. Replace the knurled knob with a 10-24 carriage bolt and a 10-24 adjustable clamping handle. McMaster has them. I did this on my Bosch, and no more pliers needed!

PC 310
If you are doing actual laminate work then get a lami kit (three bases included). However if its just for general light duty routing then get the Porter Cable 310 hands down. You will notice that it is a lot more $ than a standard lami router but its worth it. Its base is suported on both sides and it has a spiral ring around the body that lets you micro adjust the depth. Not to many places carry it but its worth checking out.
