Homeowner – owner/worker is maybe better description – seeking laser level recommendations.
My immediate need will be kitchen cabinet installation, but I figure I should get one with other uses too. Any recommendations of reasonably priced but good brand much appreciated.

Worth every penny and more
I've had the PLS5x for about 5 years and it's a great tool. I recently got the PLS360e and for a lot of what I do it will be even better. The 5 projects points in three directions, the 360 projects a complete 360-degree ring. The 5 has a "plumb" beam as well, and that's probably all I will use it for from now on. I suppose if I were going to have just one it would be the 5, because of that plumb beam and the fact that you can rotate it to cover the entire circle if needed.
I've had the PLS3 for about 5 years and it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. They are pricey but the self leveling and the strength of the laser are unmatched. Would be nice to have the rotating one but I've done everything from cabinets to drop ceilings with it and am very happy.
Don't have to get fancy just efficient.
good luck choosing

The PLS 2 will do what you need and more. For remodel work a line laser has tons of applications, and a squaring laser is also handy, but wait until you really need it. Like other electronics, prices tend to fall over time, so waiting is good.

I like this for its wide arc:

Assuming you don't need a plumb laser, this laser level unit is cheap (around $100), works well, and is great for a homeowner. Self-contained tripod, removable head, 360°, self-leveling beam. Bright enough for indoor work - outdoors only if not in the sun. Probably not rugged enough for contractor use, tho' I first saw it being used by an engineer diagnosing a cracked foundation. I picked one up and I use it all the time now. The PL units are top-notch, but may be a bit of overkill for occasional use by a homeowner.
