Tried a search which got nothing, but probably wasn’t imaginative enough in my choice of search terms.
Anyhoo, the drywall behind my somewhat primitive laundry sink is degrading from spashed water. What is the best material to cover the drywall with. I was going to use Hardi backer behind the sink and over the drywall but a painter that was over to do an estimate said that Hardi backer probably wouldn’t hold up all that well either.
This is in an unfinished garage where the laundry sink is next to the hot water heater along the wall ajoining the house, so it doesn’t need to be a work of art or a thing of beauty…

I have used some vinyl sheeting before in situations like this and had some success. It is about 1/8" thick and was about $25 a 4X8 sheet. It has a "bubble" surface on one side and is impervous to nearly every substance I've thrown at it.
How did you attach the stuff? Deck screws plus some type of adhesive (whatever will adhere to vinyl?)
I put some of those border channels on the edge and liquid nails rolled out behind it. The first one I put up, I didn't bother to pull it off & reset while the liquid nails was still wet. Got huge voids from curing liquid nails, had to take it off, clean up the mess & do it again. Heard my dad in the back of my mind " If you have time to do something twice, you have time to slow down & do it right the first time son..." Anyway, liquid nails has a product that will affix it pretty good.
This is the same stuff wal-mart uses in their indestructo bathrooms.
FRP put on with FRP rated cement would be a good joice for this...
the big boxes have what ya need.. use the trowelable cement and not the stuff in a caulk tube and you'll make life easier for yurself...
use their trim to pretty it up om the edges...
Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming
WOW!!! What a Ride!
Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
I usually use plam the width of the sink or a little larger, radius the top corners. A few dabs of silicone and temporary masking tape.

High Pressure laminate (like Formica) would work.
Scrap laminate.
