Since I’m residing & my home has both gable & soffit with ridge venting I figure now would be the time to remove the gable vents. I have heard in the past they can cause problem in the air flow with the soffit & ridge venting & even suck in snow. I’v had them with the soffit venting for over 10 years with know problems but why waste the cash for new to match the new siding??????????????

Source control, ventilation, and filtration are the keys to healthy indoor air quality. Dehumidification is important too.

I agree in principle with the "remove 'em" crowd, but in my inspections in NW Ohio I've never seen any evidence of problems actually occurring.

You don't have to remove them -- you can just block them off from the inside with cardboard or whatever. The seal doesn't have to be perfect.
Since I'm residing I'll just remove & re-sheath the opening no since leaving it no future use for it.
THANKS TO ALL FOR THE INFORMATION.
no need for the gable vents. Now's a good time to ensure you have enough soffit vent so they aren't choking the flow of the ridge.
speaking on nw ohio i see many homes with gable vents but no soffit or ridge vents.
should those be covered up as well?
Only if the have ridge vents.
like OMF (Old Man Frammer) says.
The gable vents will short circuit the desired convection current/air flow of the ridge/soffit vents. For soffit vents I prefer the continous louvered piece the whole length of the eave.
Hey I resemble that!
OMF could mean something else. :)

I thought the original was fine, thank you.
i understand what you are saying about it disrupting ridge/soffit circulation but my question is if there is no other venting except gable vents. as i said, this is predominant in alot of older homes i see here.
You need the ventilation so if it only has gable vents, then you want to keep them just the way they are unless you change the method of attic ventilation.
keep the gables if there is no other venting
Solid perforation across all soffits lots of air flow to ridge vent
Cover them up.
I have seen nightmares.
you want good air flow from soffit to ridge and the gable vents can cause dead spots in the air flow depending on wind, home orientation, etc.
