Was looking at saw blades the other day. Had a pack of Milwaukee blades in my hand when a guy walks by and comments on how he likes the aggressive action on Lennox recp saw blades so much better as opposed to Milwaukee.
Said he only buys Lennox blades and buys others only when he has to.
So I get to thinking. And I don’t know.
Any time tested results out there on a better reciprocating saw blade?
I would become self-employed except I’m too cheap to pay myself anything.

Rez, I have been living with a sawzall in my hand cutting HARD oak logs and metal roofing here.
Lennox "fire and rescue" blades out perform the "torch" or whatever MIL. has hands down. The blades seem thicker and take the heat a lot better. Not cheap, 11 bucks for 2 last I got, but I can usually resharpen them a few times before I get past the hardend edge.
An angle grinder w/ a thin cutoff wheel does a decent job, I just grind everyother tooth and deepen the gullets..
petrified oak is like concrete..really.

There is a promo video with that fire and rescue blade being used to rip a bus in half. I don't know if it will still slice a tomato cleanly after that but it's some impressive footage.
My real world experience with them leads me to believe they probably used a package or two of the blades for the demo video but nails and lumber don't seem to slow them down much.
I haven't tried resharpening them but I've got a couple of brandy new ones I snapped the tang off of that I haven't been able to throw away yet. I keep thinking I'll grind new tangs on them but there always seems to be something better to do with my time when I think about itKevin Halliburton

Go for the Lennox bro....

I hate when they break there...useless. A new tang won't do it. I tried. the steel there is harder, hence snaps, than the backbone of the blade. must be how it's held for the heat treating (read "heatsink")...or sumptin.
They do last a good while longer then any other blade I have used..(about 1,ooo it seems) and will still make an incarnation into other edged tools. I like to make narrow chisels from the "whats left" for intricate mortices, and scrapers for the internal braces of guitars ( now doan go atelling I DO that to anyone!).
Save the bits, they are handy.

Maybe make up some sort of handle that would clamp on and make them useable as small hand saws? Nice for tight quarters, or for jobs so small that it's easier to cut by hand than to carry the sawzall there and back.

been there..got a zillion, want some?

Thanks, but I got enough. Maybe not a zillion, but enough.
I'm thinking hacksaw a kerf in a steel bar, then run a machine screw or two thru perpendicular to the kerf so you could clamp it down tight on the blade. One of those back of the head maybe someday little projects.....

LOL! Why do I get the sense that my "potential tool" storage needs are paltry compared to yours? :-)>
I knew an ex-prisoner once that would make "edged tools" out of every little bit of metal he could find. It was like a habit he couldn't break. I always felt a little uneasy around that guy.
And then there is my redneck engineer buddy (he actually is a structural engineer). You would probably appreciate the best man's toast at his wedding. It went a little something like this:
"Chad is the kind of guy who will see a chunk of metal lying in the ditch, stop and pick it up, then go home and weld it to his truck." LOL! Man that described him to a tee! He once tried to fabricate what amounted to a giant pair of hydraulic scissors from steel plate scrap for his tractor so he could snip small diameter trees with it. He kept his busted sawzall blades too...

I was planning on being at RhodeFest, but the way jobs are awarded in my industry...well precluded it. Maybe next year.

Rez,
My vote is for Lennox! The blue package is more Man-lee, then the red that Old Mule packs them in!

The Lowes by me have the Lennox blades cheaper or about the same as the Milwaukee blades.
Lennox, but there's some specialty thing Mil makes, the blades are silver and super sharp. Those I'm in love with for cutting a clean straight line through framing. I know. Rare day, but worth it when you need it.

Ha, those are the ones I had in my hand when the guy was walking by.
They look like they would do the trick. Worded for Wood/Plastic on the package I believe. However, it also seems that if you were to hit an embedded nail they would be history.
Not for the demolition hearted.I would become self-employed except I'm too cheap to pay myself anything.

You're absolutely right. If you use them for regular demo, you're wasting money. But there are times when you need the recip to reach in somewhere and cut something with a semblance of accuracy. Then, those are the ticket."If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. This is the principal difference between a dog and a man." - Mark Twain
After reading this thread, I stopped on the way home and bought a couple of Lennox blades.
At $7 each, you guys had better be right.........................(-:Blood is red, cyanosis is blue. Some people are dead; wish one was you.
Ya, I put my purchase on hold till the data was in.
Is it Saturday yet?

Boss,
Check out a plumbing or electrical jobber perhaps, buy the pack they are a lot cheaper though a signifcant investment. They WILL get used.

Just don't bind one of those babies and snap the tang off within five minutes of putting the new blade on.
I dang near threw out my knee kicking myself in the butt over it the first time I did it. Kevin Halliburton

Naw - That stuff never happen to me.

Lennox beats them all. I've burned up sawzall blades for 20 years, and nothing else comes close.
