I am laying 12 in tiles in a kitchen that has a self leveling compound floor on top of a concrete subflooring. An area of about 6 sq ft needs to be re-leveled. I have some ‘waves’ that were formed when I was spreading the leveling compound. I must have ‘massaged’ the leveling compound when it was a little set. The wave areas are about 1/8 +,- inch lower that the surrounding areas.
I would prefer not to buy another 50 lb bag of leveling compound ($25) and used a little bit of it and then have it sitting in my garage for the next millennium. I do have about 1/3 of a 94 lb bag of Portland cement ($6). I think the leveling compound is mostly Portland cement (?).
Does anybody know if I can use the Portland cement, mixed with something, to create my own leveling/patching compound to level the 6 sq ft section?
I was thinking about going a little heavy on the thin set mortar when I lay the tiles but I am not sure if this will cause a tile failure in the future.
Thanks in advance
