Does anyone out there have recommendations on how to make and erect a “Liberty pole”? My wife says it’s a traditional flag pole modeled after a ship’s mast but with out a cross member. Traditionally, it’s a peeled white pine staff that’s hinged at the base so that one can tip it up and down to paint and/or get the finial on/off. I guess this is a New England-thing ’cause I’ve never heard of such a thing! (raised in Western NY).

I'll refer you to an excellent boat oriented site that I just posted for another thread;
http://www.WoodenBoat.com has a forum on their site where you'll get plenty of help.
Norm Abram built one on New Yankee Workshop but it did not have a crossbar.
