I am going to have a new garage built where my back yard workshop is now. I plan to have a second floor built over the garage for a new work shop. My problem: How to get heavy tools into the shop and heavy furniture and projects out of the shop. My architect has proposed a trapdoor system in the floor of the shop to access the garage. The trapdoor would be accessed by a lift. I have seen similar plans for second floor shops an soulds like it would meet my needs. Architect suggest a hydraulic lift called “auto attic” or something similar. I am unable to locate this on the internet for additional information. does anyone have experience with this product or a similar one? Any other system anyone could recommend? Any design suggestions for such a shop?
Thanks!

I had a similar situation in a relatively new storage building I had built. Built a lift for ~ $200. using an electric 1,500LBS hoist from HF. Placed bolted together C-channel (to form an I-beam) the length of the roof to hold the hoist. Works very well. Can hoist an auto engine if I wanted to up there.

My cabinet shop has a hydraulic scissor lift in a pit below the first floor. The platform, which is level with the first floor, is a two-sided cage with a ceiling that doubles as the floor of the second storey shop. That way, no one falls through an open hole when the lift is down. Just need enough ceiling clearance when the lift is up.
Ralph,
How's the grapefruit doing this year? LOL
BTW, The wife still loves the granite tile.

Thanks you Ralph. That is exactly what I am looking for. Where did you get the lift, or do you have a brand name?
